The rising cost of healthcare and prescription drugs already puts real pressure on Kansas families and seniors. Unfortunately, the Kansas Legislature is now considering a new Pill Tax under SB 360 that would make prescription drugs even more expensive.

Kansas does not need another hidden tax on healthcare. The proposed Pill Tax is an unfunded mandate that shifts costs directly onto patients, raising out-of-pocket prescription prices without making medicine more affordable. Seniors on fixed incomes and working families would be hit the hardest.

At a time when inflation has stretched household and retirement budgets, lawmakers should not add new costs to the medicine Kansans rely on every day. These policies do not improve care. They simply raise prices to benefit special interest groups.

It is time to stand up and demand better. Kansans deserve affordable access to medicine, not higher prescription costs.
